Hi, welcome to my site! My name is Jason Tham and I aspire to be an influential media specialist and communication scholar in the near future.
I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, the heart of Malaysia. Growing up, I consider myself fortunate to attend the well-regarded Methodist Boys’ Secondary School. The clustered, all-boy high school professed an educational and ethical philosophy that has remained with me. It was this foundation, along with the support of my family, mentors, and friends that has allowed me to pursue my American dream. I am a strong believer of perseverance and determination. I believe that everyone has the potential be great – it’s a matter of courage and the willingness to learn.
In 2008, I was offered to study media and mass communications (advertising) at St. Cloud State University, Minnesota, United States. My life was on a speeding roller coaster during the course of my bachelor’s studies. It was then that I discovered my passion for research and education. I worked several jobs and internships throughout those year, which later had further reaffirmed my aspiration. I was taught and mentored by some of the great teachers and thinkers – R. Bruce Hyde, Niaz Ahmed, William Huntzicker, Tomaz P. Przytula, Jeffery Bineham and Debra Japp – to whom I owe my deepest gratitude. Under the guidance of my research adviser, I have published numerous academic papers and gave lectures and presentations at various conferences. Check out my curriculum vitae and portfolio using the navigation tab above.
In 2012, I was admitted to the Graduate School at St. Cloud State University to further my studies. I am enrolled into the Master of Science Mass Communication (Advertising & PR) program as well as the Master of Arts English (Rhetoric & Composition) program. I am excited to pursue the knowledge in these areas and I expect to graduate by the Fall of 2015.
As a communication scholar, my research interests revolve around new communication technologies, language and socio-dynamics, intercultural communication, organizational leadership, group communication, marketing and visual communication, media effects and paradigms, just to name a few.
